The National Association of Bench and Bar Spouses, Inc. 69ᵗʰ Annual Convention (Virtual) will be held July 25-27, 2020. We will deliver extraordinary content, perspective, and a jubilant experience.
Dr. Linda Bell received her undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Texas at Austin, and obtained her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern at Dallas where she also completed residency training in Internal Medicine.
Dr. Bell served as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and as a field officer with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). Dr. Bell has held a number of positions with DHEC including, medical epidemiologist, Director of the Division of Acute Disease Epidemiology and Director of Clinical Services.
Dr. Bell is currently the State Epidemiologist and Director of the DHEC Bureau of Communicable Disease Prevention and Control providing oversight for the Divisions of Acute Disease Epidemiology, Immunizations, Tuberculosis Control, STD/HIV and Viral Hepatitis Prevention and Surveillance, Assessment and Evaluation.
Dr. Bell is married to Dr. Myron Bell a practicing cardiologist in Columbia and they have two lovely children. Please join me in welcoming my friend and neighbor, Dr. Linda Bell.
Jacqueline Beale is a native of Washington, DC and is a current resident of Glenn Dale, Maryland. Jacqueline is a two-time 17-year breast cancer survivor. Her passion for ensuring access to adequate, affordable and integrated healthcare has led her to a number of volunteer opportunities and leadership roles. She currently serves as the Maryland State Lead Ambassador for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), Breast Cancer Ambassador and Patient Family Advisory Council member for Suburban Hospital, Suburban Hospital Foundation Board Member and volunteer for the American Cancer Society (ACS).
Every year she can be seen walking the halls of Congress meeting with legislators requesting funding for research, encouraging the sponsorship of related bills, speaking at various venues sharing her story, and advocating on behalf health equality and diversity across the patient population by using her voice, power of the pen, and purse.
Jacqueline received the “Top Volunteer Award for Excellence in Cancer Advocacy” from the ACS CAN and served as the volunteer speaker for their Lights of Hope Ceremony. Jacqueline was invited as Congressman Steny Hoyer’s 2019 State of the Union Address for her advocacy work, featured on local TV networks (WUSA Great Day Washington, Fox 5, NBC) along with online broadcasting shows (Bowie and Laurel cable stations), in the Washington Post and Politico, interviewed by Baltimore radio, and spoken on the grounds of the Washington Monument for the ACS Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. Jacqueline is also a former Thelma D. Jones Breast Cancer Fund board member and received the Evelyn B. Curtis Spirit Award for her acts of service in the community.
Jacqueline received her Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Masters of Art in Public Administration from Bowie State University in Bowie, Maryland where she currently serves as an Adjunct Professor. Jacqueline is also the founder of C2JB Consulting.
Judge Genesis Draper is the presiding judge for Harris County Criminal Court at Law No. 12. Prior to taking the bench she served as an assistant public defender for 12 years at both the state and federal level. Since beginning her legal career, she has worked closely with members of the community on criminal justice reform issues in an attempt to achieve equal justice in Harris County, most recently having served on the board of directors for the Texas Civil Rights Project. She is also an adjunct professor for the University of Houston Law Center, teaching Advanced Trial Skills, and has served as faculty to the nationally recognized public defender advocacy organization, Gideon’s Promise, featured in the HBO documentary Gideon’s Army. She received a J.D. from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law and a B.A. from Spelman College. She is married to Brandon Leonard, a local criminal defense attorney, and has two children, Asa and Phoenix, who are the lights of her life.
